چکیده
Abstract Exceptional point degeneracies (EPDs) in the resonant spectrum of non-Hermitian systems have been recently employed for sensing due to sublinear response resonance splitting when a perturbant interacts with sensor. The provides high sensitivity small perturbations and large dynamic range. However, resonant-based EPD abides resolution limit imposed by quality factors signal-to-noise ratio reduction gain-elements. Moreover, it is susceptible local mechanical disturbances imperfections. Here, we propose passive non-resonant (NR) EPD-sensor that resilient losses, cavity variations, noise. NR-EPD describes coalescence Bloch eigenmodes associated transfer matrices periodic structures. This enables scattering cross-section cusps detunings away from an NR-EPD. We show these can be utilized enhanced noise-resilient sensing.

Majorana bound states from exceptional points in non-topological superconductors.
Recent experimental efforts towards the detection of Majorana bound states have focused on creating the conditions for topological superconductivity. Here we demonstrate an alternative route, which achieves fully localised zero-energy Majorana bound states when a topologically trivial superconductor is strongly coupled to a helical normal region. Such a junction can be experimentally realised b...
متن کاملLarge Amplitude Vibration Analysis of Graphene Sheets as Resonant Mass Sensors Using Mixed Pseudo-Spectral and Integral Quadrature Methods
The present paper investigates the potential application of graphene sheets with attached nanoparticles as resonant sensors by introducing a nonlocal shear deformation plate model. To take into account an elastic connection between the nanoplate and the attached nanoparticle, the nanoparticle is considered as a mass-spring system. Then, a combination of pseudo-spectral and integral quadrature m...
متن کاملNoise Suppression with Non-Air-Acoustic Sensors
Nonacoustic sensors such as the general electromagnetic motion sensor (GEMS), the physiological microphone (P-Mic), and the electroglottograph (EGG) offer multimodal approaches to speech processing and speaker and speech recognition. These sensors provide measurements of functions of the glottal excitation and, more generally, of the vocal tract articulator movements that are relatively immune ...
متن کاملExceptional points in atomic spectra.
We report the existence of exceptional points for the hydrogen atom in crossed magnetic and electric fields in numerical calculations. The resonances of the system are investigated and it is shown how exceptional points can be found by exploiting characteristic properties of the degeneracies, which are branch point singularities. A possibility for the observation of exceptional points in an exp...
